Project Background & Rationale
Anemia remains a critical public health challenge in the tribal belts of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad and adjoining areas. According to NFHS data, over 60% of tribal women and 65% of children under 10 suffer from iron deficiency. Poor dietary diversity, lack of awareness, and limited access to iron-rich foods during pregnancy and early childhood lead to low birth weight, maternal mortality, stunted growth, and poor learning outcomes.
Ragi (Finger Millet) is a locally accepted super food, rich in iron, calcium, and dietary fiber. When combined with jaggery, dates, peanuts and a multi-vitamin health mix, it significantly improves hemoglobin levels and overall immunity.
Adivasi Mitra Welfare Society has been working since 2018 for tribal health and education and proposes a focused 90-day nutrition intervention.
